Victor Wembanyama is in a fortunate position, not only playing for one of the NBA’s most prestigious organizations but also having the opportunity to learn from the legendary head coach Gregg Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs.
It’s an ideal combination, with the young prodigy widely regarded as a once-in-a-generation talent and now he’ll be mentored by one of the game’s most accomplished and respected coaches.
When asked about the kind of relationship he expects to have with his coach, Wembanyama gave a straightforward response.
“Honest relationship, I’ve had coaches who didn’t always tell me the truth and I hated that,” Wembanyama noted.
“I’m confident that when I get the chance to get coached by coach Popovich, he doesn’t lie to his players. He tells the truth.
“Sometimes it’s harsh, it’s hard, but this is what I want.”
Wembanyama knows that Popovich is a no-nonsense person who speaks his mind without hesitation.
Regardless of Wembanyama‘s reputation, Popovich won’t make any exceptions.
