Hybrid Cooling ESS by Huawei Targets East Africa’s Industries

Huawei Digital Power Eastern Africa has launched the world’s first hybrid cooling Energy Storage System (ESS) for the commercial and industrial (C&I) sector.

Unveiled at the Huawei Eastern Africa FusionSolar Launch in Nairobi, the LUNA2000-215 Series ESS offers a smarter, safer, and more cost-effective energy solution for businesses across East Africa.

The region, rich in sunlight, stands at the edge of a solar energy revolution. Countries such as Kenya, Ethiopia, and Tanzania are rapidly adopting solar power to address power shortages and reduce energy costs. However, challenges like poor storage infrastructure and unstable grids still hold back the sector’s full potential.

Huawei’s LUNA2000-215 system addresses these hurdles directly. It enables users to store solar energy efficiently and ensures a steady supply. The system’s hybrid cooling technology enhances safety, while its fast and easy installation suits industrial needs. As a result, businesses can lower energy expenses and improve sustainability.

Driving Solar Innovation in East Africa

The launch supports Huawei’s wider solar vision, highlighted in its “Top 10 Trends of FusionSolar Launch 2025” whitepaper. The report outlines trends that will shape solar adoption globally—many of which fit East Africa’s needs. For example, Huawei predicts over 90% of solar plants will be fully digitalized by 2025, driven by cloud and 5G integration.

AI is also becoming essential. More than 70% of solar plants are expected to use AI for predictive maintenance, reducing downtimes and increasing efficiency. Moreover, automated, unmanned plant operations will soon cover 80% of the industry. Additionally, over 30% of solar systems will include energy storage by 2025—making Huawei’s new ESS timely and strategic.

Commitment to a Greener Future

Du Peng (Olivier), CEO of Huawei Digital Power Eastern Africa, highlighted the region’s readiness for change. “The demand for affordable and stable power, combined with falling solar costs, creates a perfect environment. Our model offers not just a product but a long-term partnership,” he said.

Huawei’s ESS has a 10+ year lifespan, low maintenance needs, and advanced AI-driven monitoring. Installation takes just two hours. George Aluru, CEO of the Electricity Sector Association of Kenya, praised the system as a milestone for reliable, cost-effective energy in East Africa.

As energy demands rise, Huawei’s innovation offers a bold step toward a cleaner, more resilient future.
