On May 10, 2025, US President Donald J. Trump announced through his Truth Social account that India and Pakistan had agreed to a “Full and immediate Ceasefire.” following the four-day conflict between both nations.

“After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Trump disclosed.

Trump’s post was echoed almost immediately by the Foreign Minister of Pakistan, who publicly confirmed the agreement and emphasized that the ceasefire would be effective “with immediate effect”.

According to an official statement by the US State Department released soon after Trump’s announcement, “Governments of India and Pakistan have immediately agreed to the ceasefire and to start a conversation on a broad set of issues.”

By the time the ceasefire was formally given, the human cost was already increasing with death toll crossing 50 on both sides.

This statement credited American diplomacy with the convenience of success, positioning Washington as a major intermediary in South Asian stability at the forefront.

The ceasefire came after an overnight US-led dialogue, which included the state secretary Marco Rubio, with Pakistan’s Army Chief, and the Foreign Ministers of the two countries.

The State Department noted that to prevent further violence, it would offer Rubio’s role “in starting creative negotiations” and paving the way for diplomatic engagement.

India-Pakistan crisis triggers fatalities

By the time the ceasefire was formally given, the human cost was already increasing. Citizens’ deaths has crossed 50 on both sides.

Officials of the two countries insisted that further enmity will only start when the ceasefire is violated.

As the situation escalated, both India and Pakistan took precautionary measures to protect civilians and critical infrastructure. India shut down civil airports in its northern and western regions until May 15, aiming to minimize potential threats.

In response, Pakistan completely suspended its airspace.

These decisions, made at the height of the confrontation, were intended to reduce the risk of civilian casualties and accidental escalation.

On the political front, the leadership between the two countries has initiated moves to stabilize and ensure compliance.

In India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called a top-level security meeting with a review of military currency with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

In Pakistan, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif coordinated with both military and foreign affairs officials to confirm the country’s commitment to the ceasefire.

Despite the declaration of peace, analysts warned that the underlying tensions were unresolved.

Whether it will be a ceasefire or only a delayed struggle depends on the upcoming dialogue and political will on both sides of the border to convert the ceasefire into permanent peace.
