There has been a public debate between New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft and the team’s coach Bill Belichick, with the latter claiming that spending has been tightened at the franchise.

The Patriots have missed the playoffs in two of the past three seasons and Belichick has claimed that this coincides with a tightening of the purse strings.

Robert Kraft confirms that Tom Brady will make a special return to the Patriots

“The aggregate of our spending in 2020, our spending in 202, and our spending in 2022 was 27th in the league in cash spending,” Belichick stated in a press conference.

“In a couple of years we were low, while one year was high.

“But, over a three-year period, we are one of the lowest spending teams in the league.”

It seems Patriots owner Robert Kraft didn’t like that assertion from his coach, as he has come out to insist that he still wants to spend big, within salary cap limits of course.

“[Belichick] has never come to me and not gotten everything he wanted from a cash-spending perspective, as we have never set limits,” Kraft told Greg Bedard, who writes for the Boston Sports Journal.

“Money spending will never be the issue, I promise you, or I’ll sell the team.”

With Kraft defending himself, he is suggesting that the money might not have been spent in the right way, which is in turn a shot at the head coach since he oversees all football operations.
