Leidos has announced the mass production of the Indirect Fires Protection Capability Increment 2 (IFPC Inc 2) ground-based weapon system for the US Army.

The launchers will be incorporated into the army’s Integrated Air and Missile Defense (AIAMD) network, allowing for plug-and-play operation.

The announcement comes after the company’s $4.1-billion indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity deal with the force’s Missiles & Space Program Executive Office.

Initial production will begin as low-rate before implementing a full-rate scheme, providing a wide range of support and services to field the launcher units.

At least 18 launchers will be manufactured under the deal.

“This latest production order underscores the demand for this critical capability,” Leidos land systems lead Larry Barisciano shared.

“With affordable and transformative scalability, we’re driving proactive solutions to protect our warfighters and essential infrastructure worldwide. We’re fiercely committed to delivering this mission-critical system with unmatched speed and precision,” he added.

Deliveries for the IFPC Inc 2s are expected to run until 2029.

Designed to bridge the gap between tactical short-range air defense and strategic systems, the IFPC Inc 2 is designed to counter unmanned aerial vehicles and cruise missiles.

Its open architecture allows it to utilize an AIM-9X interceptor while making room for future effectors.

The IFPC Inc 2s will be used in the US Indo-Pacific Command Pacific Deterrence Initiative, which seeks to address and deter broader strategic threats in the Indo-Pacific region.
