Klein Marine Systems has selected the Exail Octans Nano OEM Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS) as the standard navigation solution for its 5900 Side Scan Sonar (SSS).

The integration aims to improve navigation accuracy and data quality for seabed mapping used in defense, security, and commercial operations.

“This advanced motion compensation technology reduces data errors, delivering clearer and more reliable imagery for critical missions,” said Ted Curley, General Manager at Klein Marine Systems.

By enhancing positioning precision and image stability, the integration reduces the need for extensive post-processing of data.

“Through this partnership, Exail and Klein Marine Systems are setting a new standard for accuracy and efficiency in seabed mapping and underwater exploration worldwide,” stated Exail.

The Systems

The Octans Nano OEM AHRS provides reliable orientation by measuring a platform’s heading, forward-backward, and side-to-side tilt, enhancing sonar imaging and navigation systems.

Its compact size and low power requirements make it suitable for underwater platforms, especially during long missions where consistent and precise orientation data is essential.

The Klein 5900 SSS is designed for high-resolution seabed imaging to support missions such as geophysical surveys, wreck location, and unexploded ordnance detection.

It features automatic target recognition capabilities powered by Spectral artificial intelligence software, enabling real-time object detection and classification in the field.

The system delivers detailed imagery at survey speeds up to 12 knots (13.8 miles/22.2 kilometers per hour).
