Bharti Airtel has announced its role as the landing partner for the 2Africa Pearls cable in India, a subsea network connecting Africa, India, and Europe via the Middle East.

The 2Africa Pearls cable will deliver over 100 terabits per second (Tbps) of international capacity to India, enhancing Airtel’s global network and supporting the country’s digital growth ambitions.

This partnership also involves 2Africa Pearls’ investors, center3 and Meta.

Part of the larger 2Africa cable system, the 2Africa Pearls spans over 45,000 kilometers across Asia, Africa, and Europe. The cable system is backed by a consortium that includes Bayobab, center3, China Mobile International, Meta, Orange, Telecom Egypt, Vodafone Group, and the West Indian Ocean Cable Company. Alcatel Submarine Networks is responsible for its manufacturing and installation.

Sharat Sinha, Director and CEO of Airtel Business, welcomed the development: “We are thrilled to bring the 2Africa Pearls cable to India, strengthening our network resilience. We are aggressively expanding our global infrastructure and recently landed the SEA-ME-WE 6 cable in Chennai and Mumbai. We will continue investing in global cable systems to future-proof our network and ensure high uptime, reliability, and superior quality for our customers.”
