Chad Deems Sudanese General’s Airport Threat a ‘Declaration of War’

Sudan’s civil war threatens to escalate into a regional conflict after a top Sudanese general threatened to target Chad’s airports, claiming the United Arab Emirates uses them to supply weapons to the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). In response, Chad condemned the remarks as a “declaration of war” and vowed to defend its sovereignty, in line with international law. Lt-Gen Yasir al-Atta, the deputy commander of the Sudanese army, made the comments during a ceremony for an army officer killed in an RSF drone attack. He threatened retaliatory action against the UAE, South Sudan, and Chad’s President Mahamat Déby, all of whom it accuses of backing the RSF.
