Due to changes in the global oil market, currency depreciation, and reductions in subsidies, several African countries saw an increase in fuel cost for the month, in line with the increase in global average fuel price.

Almost every industry is impacted by these rising costs, from agriculture to transportation, which exacerbates inflation and worsens economic hardship.

One of the most obvious consequences of rising gas prices is an increase in the cost of living.

Since companies raise prices to offset increased production and transportation expenses, expensive fuel plays a major role in inflation.

Growing gasoline prices worsen economic instability in nations like Nigeria, where inflation has been a significant challenge.

Nigeria's fuel subsidy policy has spiked petrol cost

Households have a greater financial burden as a result, which lowers disposable income and slows down economic activity generally.

The cost of shipping raw materials and finished goods grows, forcing firms to either absorb the expenses, resulting in lower profit margins, or pass them on to customers, raising item prices.

Additionally, small companies are particularly susceptible, as many African firms rely on fuel-powered generators due to unstable energy supply.

With that said, here are the 10 African countries with the highest fuel prices in March 2025, as per Globalpetrolprices.

Data for the month was last updated on the 10th of March, 2025, when the average price of gasoline around the world was 1.26 U.S. Dollar per liter, compared to 1.25 U.S. Dollars per liter, last month.

Compared to the top 10 list for February 2025, fuel prices for the Central Africa Republic, Senegal, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Seychelles, and Ivory Coast all saw an increase.

While every other country on the current list, including Morocco, Cameroon, Cape Verde, and Burkina Faso, did not make the top 10 list last month, suggesting that several African countries are experiencing an increase in energy cost.
