Amen and Ausar Thompson made NBA history when they became the first brothers to be taken in the top 5 in consecutive picks during a single NBA Draft.

Amen was selected with the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets. Ausar, with the next pick, was taken by the Detroit Pistons at No. 5. Both played basketball at Overtime Elite, a professional basketball league for international and American players under 21.

The Thompson brothers’ journey in pro basketball also had distinctive HBCU ties, too.

Their parents — Maya and Troy Thompson — met while at Howard University.

Ausar and Amen’s older brother, Troy Jr. — named after his dad — is nine years older than the twins and played college basketball for Prairie View A&M. Troy Jr. also spent time in the NBA G League.
