PRETORIA – The African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) is gearing up for a highly anticipated event: the ATAF Women in Tax Network Leadership Conference. Set to take place in Cape Town, South Africa, on March 5-6, 2025, this conference promises to be a pivotal moment for women in the tax and economic sectors across Africa. With the theme, “Shaping Africa’s Future: Gender Equality, Domestic Resource Mobilization (DRM), and Global Tax Reform”, the conference will shine a spotlight on key issues that are fundamental to the continent’s progress while empowering and advancing women in the tax space.
The conference brings together female tax professionals from across the continent, providing a platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and mutual empowerment. The event will feature a series of panel discussions, workshops, and keynote addresses by influential figures in the fields of tax policy, economic development, and gender advocacy.
Dr Nthabiseng Debeila expects key role players in tax administration and policy to form part of the conference. They will be sensitised “on how they, as leaders, can be catalysts for change in their countries’ tax systems, and how gender-sensitive policies can contribute to more equitable and efficient tax systems across Africa.”
The conference will also explore the role of DRM in Africa’s economic development. While foreign aid has historically played a significant role in African economies, there is an increasing push to rely more on domestic resources to fund development priorities.
