Piers Litherland, who previously discovered the tomb of Pharaoh Thutmose II in Luxor, has identified a second tomb, potentially containing the pharaoh’s mummified body and grave goods. Hidden beneath 23 meters of limestone rubble and plaster, the tomb was deliberately concealed after Thutmose II’s death around 1479BC. Litherland’s team uncovered a key inscription, suggesting that Thutmose II’s wife, Hatshepsut, may have moved his contents to this hidden tomb. The team is carefully excavating the man-made layers surrounding the tomb, with progress being slow due to large rocks and dangerous conditions. If confirmed, this would be a monumental discovery.
