The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a remarkable achievement in the country’s power sector, revealing that Nigeria has reached a new peak electricity generation of 5,543.20 MW.

This historic milestone was reached on Friday, February 14, 2025, at 11 PM, surpassing the previous record of 5,478.73 MW set just a day earlier on Thursday, February 13, 2025.

The announcement was made in a statement from the company’s management on Wednesday.

The statement noted, “The Transmission Company of Nigeria is excited to report that the Nigerian Power Sector achieved a new peak generation of 5,543.20 MW for the year 2025, on Friday, February 14, 2025, at 11:00 PM. This exceeds the previous peak of 5,478.73 MW recorded on Thursday, February 13, 2025.”

In addition to this new peak in power generation, the TCN also emphasized another significant achievement in energy distribution.

On that day, the Maximum Daily Energy supplied reached an unprecedented 125,159.48 MWh, breaking the previous record of 121,674.88 MWh set on February 7, 2025, by a remarkable 3,484.60 MWh.

The company announced that it successfully transmitted this new peak generation and maximum daily energy to distribution companies across the country, ensuring efficient power delivery to consumers throughout Nigeria.

“Importantly, the new Maximum Daily Energy of 125,159.48 MWh marks the highest level ever recorded in the nation’s electricity sector, surpassing the former record of 121,674.88 MWh from February 7, 2025, by 3,484.60 MWh,” the statement noted.

This milestone underscores the ongoing efforts and commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, to improve Nigeria’s power generation capacity and electricity supply.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reiterated its commitment to maintaining and surpassing this new record.
