Lockheed Martin has secured a $551-million contract to equip current and future US Navy submarines with advanced electronic warfare (EW) systems.

The agreement includes the supply of Lockheed’s AN/BLQ-10 electronic support system, along with engineering and technical support services.

The contract does not specify which submarines will be fitted with the EW system.

Work will be performed at Lockheed’s New York facility, with completion expected by January 2030.

According to the Pentagon announcement, the contract includes options that could increase its total value to $1.4 billion if exercised.

About the AN/BLQ-10

Lockheed’s AN/BLQ-10 EW system is designed to deliver exceptional situational awareness to submarine crews, particularly in electromagnetically dense littoral environments.

It can quickly receive, analyze, and relay critical signals to the commanding officer, aiding key decision-making.

Additionally, the system processes hostile, neutral, and friendly signals, ensuring effective threat identification, response, and reducing the risk of friendly fire.

Each AN/BLQ-10 system includes a threat warning/mission tasking display, geographic display, identification confidence display, and receiver control.

“The AN/BLQ-10 electronic support system is helping to meet the challenges of today’s and tomorrow’s Navy with a proven, low risk, and affordable electronic warfare system, providing critical analysis in an uncertain and dynamic environment,” Lockheed stated.
