Morocco has deepened its weapons cooperation with Turkey in a bid to modernize its military arsenal and strengthen defense capabilities.

Rabat recently hosted a delegation from Turkey’s leading defense firm, Aselsan, to discuss potential collaborations in local arms production and defense technology.

The partnership is set to focus on electronic systems, smart solutions, and unmanned aerial platforms, offering new job opportunities for Moroccan technical specialists.

Morocco and Aselsan are also reportedly in talks to acquire a new combat management system, aimed at bolstering the kingdom’s naval defense capabilities.

Once fully implemented, the expanded arms collaboration could help Morocco diversify its sources of armaments and establish a competitive national defense industry.

A Leading Customer of Turkish Systems

Morocco has become a key customer of Turkish defense systems, with past acquisitions including Bayraktar TB2 combat drones and Cobra II armored vehicles.

In November 2024, Morocco announced plans to acquire Turkey’s Akinci drones, with initial deliveries set for next month.

Furthermore, Aselsan is said to have secured a $50.7-million contract to provide the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces with the Koral electronic warfare system.

With these advanced Turkish weapons and defense technologies, Morocco is poised to become a stronger regional power, especially as security challenges continue to intensify.
