Mastercard has opened its first office in Accra, Ghana, to support the country’s growing digital economy.

This expansion strengthens its footprint across Africa, with existing offices in Cairo, Casablanca, Johannesburg, Lagos, Nairobi, and Mauritius.

This move is part of Mastercard’s strategy to reinforce relationships with local stakeholders and foster inclusive growth in West Africa.

“Opening our office in Ghana marks an important milestone in our commitment to deepening relationships across the region. Our growth strategy for West Africa is ambitious, and establishing a formal presence here allows us to better serve the specific needs of our customers. We are eager to leverage our global expertise and innovative capabilities to introduce advanced payment technologies in this market,”

said Mark Elliott, Division President for Africa at Mastercard.

Collaborations with Kalabash, KaiOS, Boost, Smile ID, and financial institutions like Access Bank and Fidelity Bank have enhanced cross-border payment solutions, expanded access to digital services, and empowered local fintechs to contribute to the country’s growing digital economy.

With Ghana’s economic growth, particularly in agriculture, mining, and digital infrastructure, Mastercard sees significant opportunities to expand its footprint in the region.

In addition to its office, Mastercard has worked to improve financial inclusion in Ghana through collaborations, initiatives like the Mastercard Fintech Forum, and efforts to enhance cross-border payment solutions.
