Brazilian firm Embraer has opened its new subsidiary, Embraer Defense Europe, headquartered in Lisbon, Portugal.

The facility will be the central hub for the company’s defense initiatives across Europe, serving European armed forces and NATO members.

The office will be linked to the Portuguese subsidiary of the Brazilian firm and will assist in program management, support, and engineering.

President & CEO of Embraer Defense & Security Bosco da Costa Junior said the company has a long-term vision for Europe.

“We are committed to deepening our relationships with European and NATO partners, offering the most advanced and efficient capabilities to meet each customer’s operational needs,” da Costa Junior stated.

Embraer C-390 Aircraft in Europe

Embraer is a key supplier to European armed forces, particularly of its C-390 Millennium aircraft.

This month, Slovakia selected the C-390 Millennium as its new military transport aircraft. The country plans to initiate the acquisition of three planes in early 2025.

In July, Embraer secured a contract for nine C-390 aircraft through a joint acquisition by the Netherlands and Austria.

The agreement includes five aircraft for the Royal Netherlands Air Force and four for the Austrian Air Force.

The procurement aims to enhance logistical capabilities for international deployments, emergency evacuations, and humanitarian operations.

Moreover, Embraer and Germany’s Rheinmetall partnered earlier this year to expand training for European C-390 Millennium operators.

The collaboration will assess training needs and evaluate the possibility of establishing a dedicated regional training hub.

The facility will support pilots, loadmasters, mechanics, and other personnel, ensuring readiness for current and future C-390 users.
