The Venice Biennale is arguably one of the world’s most important art fairs, and its selection of Koyo Kouoh to helm its next edition speaks volumes about changing perspectives in the art world. The first African woman to serve as the fair’s artistic director, Kouoh is the chief curator of South Africa’s Zeitz Museum of Contemporary African Art, and her appointment reflects the commanding presence that African art is exerting across the globe.
