From the bustling cultural scene of Kigali to the serene beauty of Victoria Falls, Africa offers a diverse range of travel experiences that can make the yuletide season truly special.

Opting for African destinations offers numerous benefits, including boosting local economies and preserving cultural heritage, making intra-continental travel an attractive choice.

The Africa Report alongside Jeune Afrique, has unveiled its inaugural ranking of Africa’s 30 most attractive cities. The ranking is based on a thorough, multidimensional analysis drawn from nearly 2,000 responses in a participatory survey conducted among its readers.

This study evaluates 30 African countries that have been surveyed and ranked based on 26 sub-criteria grouped into five main categories which include:

  • Quality of life (safety, green spaces, cleanliness, etc.)
  • Infrastructure and housing (transport, accessibility, availability of decent housing, etc.)
  • Employment and economic opportunities (job market dynamism, attractiveness for entrepreneurs, etc.)
  • Essential services (access to water, electricity, healthcare, education, etc.)
  • Foreign direct investment (cumulative investment amounts and number of projects from 2019 to 2023)

Cities that balance economic growth with cultural heritage, safety, and sustainability are most likely to attract tourists

The combination of these factors influences a city’s overall attractiveness.

Cities that balance economic growth with cultural heritage, safety, and sustainability are the most likely to attract both residents and tourists alike.
