The Tanzanian Public-Private Partnership Center has set its sights on at least 25 trillion Tanzanian shillings ($9 billion) to fund important infrastructure and development projects across many sectors, with over 84 projects already ongoing.
This was made known by the PPPC Executive Director David Kafulila at a seminar for the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Regional Administration and Local Government in Dar es Salaam on Monday.
He emphasized the importance of such initiatives, highlighting the progress the country has enjoyed as a result of Public-Private Partnerships, the Citizen reported.
“The projects under PPPC are at various stages—agreement, feasibility studies, evaluation, procurement, and concept development,” David Kafulila said to the parliamentary committee.
“Key projects, such as the $340 million Kibaha-Chalinze road and the $1 billion construction of ring roads, are progressing well,” he added.
The Dar es Salaam Development Corporation project, which involves constructing a $37 billion modernized commercial complex in the busy Kariakoo region of Dar es Salaam, is a major area of focus for the PPPC.
This project is intended to attract more investment opportunities, adding to the pro-business appeal the president of the country, Samia Hassan, has been pushing for.
In addition, the PPPC head indicated that the Tanzania Railways Corporation is looking into the viability of a new railway line that would connect Kariakoo with Tegeta and Mlimani City.
Kafulila stressed that in order to guarantee the long-term viability of these projects, all parties involved must closely adhere to the law.
