Embraer and Rheinmetall have received a contract to deliver a C-390 Millennium training suite for the Royal Netherlands Air Force.

The deal builds on Amsterdam’s July 2024 program to procure five C-390 transport aircraft to replace the air force’s C-130H Hercules in service since the 1990s.

The package incorporates Embraer’s Full Flight Simulator, Rheinmetall’s Cargo Handling Station Trainer, and a Computer Based Trainer developed by Portuguese company Empordef Tecnologias de Informação (ETI).

All components will be shipped to the country by 2026 and are expected to be operational the same year.

‘Significant Milestone’

The consortium noted that the Dutch military’s upcoming C-390 training device package offers over 350 malfunction sets for training purposes, enabling practice in both normal and emergency flight scenarios.

Additionally, the suite provides a loadmaster procedure function through a visual representation device that projects a view of the Millennium’s cargo hold interior and entire airframe.

The package also has a learning management system that relays theoretical instruction for pilots, loadmasters, other crew members, and sustainment personnel.

“The new training devices offered to the Royal Netherlands Air Force are a significant milestone in our long-term relationship,” Embraer Services & Support CEO and President Carlos Naufel stated.

“Working in partnership with Rheinmetall and ETI, Embraer is focused on providing the best-in-class training solutions required by our customers.”

“We have tailored these solutions aiming on every detail needed by the Royal Netherlands Air Force, and we are looking forward to deepening our relationship even more in the coming years.”
