The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has announced a staggering loss of approximately N6 billion as a result of a 12-day power outage that significantly disrupted business and social activities in its service areas across Kano, Jigawa, and Katsina states.

Sani Bala Sani, KEDCO’s Head of Corporate Communications, noted that the outage was exacerbated by the vandalism of 70 transformers during this period, further complicating the company’s situation.

Sani stated, “We are currently implementing load shedding measures, focusing on industrial and commercial feeders to foster economic development, particularly in Kano, which is a key industrial center.”

He explained that the blackout was triggered by a tripping incident on the 330kV transmission line, which disconnected several states in the northwestern and northeastern regions from the national grid.

Additionally, Sani mentioned that efforts were made to balance power distribution between industrial and residential areas, and electricity was finally restored on Wednesday.

He acknowledged the hard work of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) in restoring grid connectivity to the affected states, gradually re-establishing electricity supply to communities in the northern region.
