Advanced Defense Technologies Inc. (ADTI) has received a subcontract to produce unmanned ground vehicle controllers for the US Marine Corps.
The devices will complement the Micro Tactical Ground Robots (MTGR) being procured to enhance the service’s lightweight drone assets for terrestrial missions.
Alongside the controllers, the Maryland-based company will provide spare parts and operational services to ensure “seamless” integration with the upcoming autonomous vehicles.
ADTI will manufacture the controllers at its facility in Windsor Mill.
200 Drones Next Year
The US Marine Corps awarded the primary MTGR acquisition contract to Israeli autonomous systems developer Roboteam in May 2024.
The $30-million deal includes an order of approximately 200 systems, with the first batch expected in the first half of 2025.
“By working with ADTI, we’re able to deliver the full force of the MTGR’s capabilities to the US Marine Corps,” Roboteam CEO Matan Shirvi explained.
“This agreement reaffirms the MTGR’s position as a leading solution in tactical ground robotics and an ideal tool for the US Marine Corps’ diverse and challenging missions. We look forward to expanding our partnership with ADTI to fortify the US Marine Corps’ operational capabilities and field safety.”
The Micro Tactical Ground Robots
Roboteam’s MTGR offers capabilities to assist warfighters in tasks such as special operations, bomb disposal, target acquisition, reconnaissance, and surveillance tasks.
The 15-kilogram (33-pound) drone features 360-degree video coverage, day/night vision, automatic leveling, and climbing arms, enabling deployment in tight or rugged environments.
“We’re fully committed to advancing Roboteam’s mission to provide high-performance tactical robots that support warfighters and keep them safe,” ADTI CEO Tamir Ziv stated.
“Reliable solutions like the MTGR can be the difference between mission success and failure, which is why we’re grateful for our partnership with this organization. These solutions are critical to ensuring troops stay protected in times of conflict.”
