The agreement with Botswana will improve Azerspace satellite services’ implementation in extensive data initiatives throughout Southern Africa.

“Under this long-term agreement, the Botswana government agency will utilize data services provided via the Azerspace-1 telecommunication satellite. Notably, this marks the inaugural provision of satellite data services to Botswana via the African C band coverage on the Azerspace-1 satellite,” the company relayed via its website.

The government agency of Botswana will make use of data services supplied by the Azerspace-1 communications satellite as per the terms of this long-term agreement.

This is the first time that Botswana has received satellite data services via the African C band coverage on the Azerspace-1 satellite.

Currently, Azercosmos provides satellite services to about half of Southern Africa’s 13 nations.

Similarly, Techpoint reported in June that Botswana is set to launch its first satellite by 2025. Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) and Bulgarian satellite company EnduroSat are collaborating on this objective.

The satellite, dubbed, BOTSAT-1, is intended to aid the Southern African country in monitoring ground and soil conditions for mining and agriculture.

The satellite will be launched atop SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket. It will include a hyperspectral camera and run on EnduroSat’s 3U microsatellite architecture.

Furthermore, the report by Techpoint revealed that SpaceX will oversee the logistics of the launch and carry out extensive testing to guarantee a smooth and successful voyage.
