Indra has signed an agreement with Spanish startup Idbotic to develop hardware encryption for the Future Combat Air Warfare System’s (FCAS) sensors and systems.

A “non-clonable” identity for the sensors and systems will be developed under the agreement, facilitating real-time secure data exchange.

The FCAS is Europe’s futuristic aerial combat system based on a sixth-generation fighter aircraft flying alongside remotely-piloted aerial platforms.

‘Combat Cloud’

The systems will also be linked with other platforms on the air, ground, and sea, operating within a “combat cloud,” according to Indra, the coordinator of the program in Spain.

Real-time data exchange between the systems will be facilitated by the cloud through a network of sensors and effectors, “providing unprecedented situational awareness and the possibility of coordinating the actions of all these platforms as if they were a single entity,” according to Indra.

Encryption Projects

Under the agreement, the firms will work on a trio of parallel projects to provide security at different levels: a) Non-clonable physical function, focusing on hardware security, b) distributed registration technology, facilitating rapid distribution of private keys, and c) fully homomorphic encryption, integration of encryption and decryption processes resistant to post-quantum attacks.

Idbotic president Cesar Goyache stated that “our joining the NGWS (Next Generation Weapons System)/FCAS program allows us to make strides in our development of a dual technology that will find an enormous range of applications.”

“We are proud to be collaborating with a great Spanish technology company such as Indra, which has opened its doors and facilitated our entry into what is undoubtedly one of the most exciting technology programs underway in Europe today.”
