The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu has vowed to sanction non-performing agencies and parastatals under the power ministry.

Adelabu issued this warning during a meeting where performance contracts were signed with various agencies in the sector in Abuja on Tuesday.

He stressed that the assessment, which would be at the end of the year, would be all inclusive of every employee under the Power Ministry.

“We will not wait until the end of the year or end of the quarter before we start assessing ourselves. We need to get involved in the work on how you are progressing to achieve your final targets for the quarter.

“Just like the performance delivery is top-down, the reward will also be top-down on achievement. Then, sanctions too, will be top-down.

“Depending on the sanctions that Mr. President is going to mete out to a non-performing minister and a non-performing council, we will determine the sanctions that will be met out to everybody involved here”, he said.

The development comes amid challenges facing the distribution, generation and transmission value chain of the power sector.

In 2024 alone, Nigeria has been thrown into darkness at least five times over the National Grid collapse.

This is as Nigerians have continued to groan over epileptic power supply despite April and July 2024 electricity tariff hikes for Band A customers getting 20-24 hours electricity supply
