Raytheon has received a $1.2-billion contract to supply Patriot air and missile defense systems to Germany.

The capabilities will be integrated with the country’s existing air defense platforms, the company wrote in its announcement.

The deal includes the Patriot’s latest Configuration 3+ radars, command and control stations, and launchers.

Berlin will also receive corresponding support services and spare parts to secure the weapon’s operability.

“Patriot remains the tried-and-true stalwart of air and missile defense, relied upon by our global customers to deter aggression and defend their interests,” Raytheon Land and Air Defense Systems President Tom Laliberty stated.

“With each additional Patriot system, Germany is enhancing its own air defenses and strengthening NATO’s defense posture.”

Germany’s procurement follows another $1.2-billion contract in March for a separate tranche of the Patriot system.

Patriot Projects

Raytheon received $5.5 billion in contracts in January to manufacture approximately 1,000 Patriot missiles for NATO members in response to Russia’s aggression in Eastern Europe.

The firm then partnered with Spain-based Sener in April to produce parts of Patriot variants offered to the US armed forces and international allies.

This collaboration focuses on the weapon system’s electro-mechanical control section used for flight control management between the interceptor and command facilities.

In March 2023, Raytheon signed a $1.2-billion agreement to produce the Patriot’s firing unit for the US Army.

This order was placed after the Pentagon pledged air defense systems to Ukraine to support its warfighters against Russia’s invasion.
