5 More Kenyans Become Millionaires in the Ongoing Shangwe @25 Promotion

Safaricom’s Shangwe @25 promotion has added five new millionaires to its growing list of winners.

Hannah Ngige from Komarock, Wellington Juma from Kisumu, Taala Chelanga from Elgeyo Marakwet, Elizabeth Wairimu from Thika and Sheila Cheptoo from Bomet each received Kes 1 million.

Their win brings the total number of millionaires in the campaign to ten.

Each winner also received an additional Kes 250,000 to support a community project of their choice, extending the campaign’s impact beyond individual beneficiaries.

Winners Celebrate Life-Changing Moments as Businesses Also Benefit

During the award ceremony at Jacaranda Grounds in Nairobi, the winners shared emotional stories of disbelief, relief, and hope for new beginnings.

Komarock’s Hannah Ngige said the win was a blessing during difficult economic times. She plans to invest in her business, start tomato farming in Kimana, and support Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital’s maternity wing with new beddings.

In Kisumu, clinical officer Wellington Juma almost dismissed the congratulatory call as fraud after a night shift.

After confirming the win at the Safaricom Kisumu Shop, he said he will complete his house, equip his clinic and support a widows’ group in Ahero.

Twenty-five-year-old poultry farmer Sheila Cheptoo from Bomet received the call while unwell. She plans to expand her poultry business, support her siblings’ education, and donate bedding and food to Kitoben Primary Children’s Home.

From Elgeyo Marakwet, Taala Chelanga said she had never imagined holding such an amount. She plans to buy land and build a home for her family.

Thika’s Elizabeth Wairimu, a mother of four who runs a small kiosk, said the win came at a difficult time. She plans to buy a plot, put up rental units and expand her kiosk. Her donation will support Twiga Primary School in Juja with textbooks.

Small businesses across the country also won big. Five enterprises received Bajaj tricycles to boost logistics and deliveries. Another five won stock worth Kes 250,000 to strengthen their growth.

Under the large and medium enterprise category, Moringa School, the European Union, and the United Nations Federal Credit Union each received Kes 500,000 for their preferred CSR projects.

Since its launch, Shangwe at 25 has rewarded thousands of customers every day and week with cash prizes, devices, business support tools and data bundles. More than 50,000 customers win weekly and over 5 million are expected to benefit throughout the campaign.

Customers can participate by using M-PESA services, paying with M-PESA, redeeming Bonga Points or purchasing Safaricom voice, data or digital products.

Merchants and agents qualify through Buy Goods, Pochi la Biashara and transactions of Kes 1,000 and above.
