The art world is ever evolving with trends coming and going with time. Here are 5 predicted art trends for 2024:

Political Art

In 2024, there will be a spotlight on political art and art that centers around social justice and activism. More artists are using their works to explore societal issues like racial injustice, gender identity and political instability to spark conversation and inspire change. Now more than ever, urban artists are using their art to drive activism and address matters like human right violation, the importance of free speech, corruption with their aim being to foster understanding, empathy and ultimately inspire concrete action towards a better future. By highlighting these critical issues and inspiring crucial conversations, these diverse art forms have the power to ignite positive change and shape a more equitable world.

AI-Generated art

As Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology moves forward, the debate surrounding AI-generated art continues. This discourse will still continue in 2024 as its use in art creation creates controversy about originality, ownership and the very essence of creativity.  A big part of this tension is data poisoning; some artists intentionally poison the data used to train these AI systems in order to challenge the ethics and consequences of AI-generated art. This clash between traditional art and the rapidly evolving world of AI and raises questions about the future of art in the age of technology

Sustainability and Eco-art

In 2024, sustainability, eco-art and ethical practices are expected to gain popularity within the art community. This reflects a growing awareness of environmental issues and a push towards a more sustainable art scene. Artists are increasingly drawn to themes of environmental and cultural preservation and galleries are embracing eco-friendly methods for production and distribution. This art trend isn’t just about money, it’s an important response from artists dedicated to tackling urgent ecological challenges before it’s too late.

Hypersentimentalism

Coined by Artnet’s Kate Brown, hypersentimentalism can be defined as a more of a sensibility rather than a distinct aesthetic style that involves the portrayal of personal, emotional scene, often featuring the artist’s own social circle or community. 2024 will see the rise of the hypersentimentalism art trend and in a time when we’re surrounded by digital screens and social media, this art style stands out by highlighting real-life connections and intimate moments. As we crave authenticity and genuine human connections in a world full of technology, hypersentimentalism art trend strikes a chord with many.

Large-Scale Abstract Art

Abstract art is gaining popularity with towering canvases and immersive experiences. Abstract art, unlike realistic art, does not only push boundaries, it also ignites our imaginations and is set to be a major force in 2024.
