Ever heard of the saying, “happy wife, happy life”? Well, this kind of applies to the workplace; happy employees, make successful businesses. When you’re excited about work, you become more productive and motivated, as well as more likely to stick with the company. With that being said, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, drained and under-compensated – you have to keep yourself happy and motivated, not just for the sake of the company but for your personal peace of mind.

Even without an employer providing fancy benefits, it’s possible for you as an employee to create your own sense of happiness at work. Whether your job is one you feel passionate about or one that you simply know you can do well, you can increase your happiness at work with a variety of everyday strategies.

Set goals and smash them – Nothing is more motivating than having a personal sense of accomplishment and seeing your impact on the company. If you want that sense of accomplishment, set benchmarks for yourself and focus on making progress toward small goals. Feeling out of the loop at work, or knowing that you are missing out on big or little wins, can leave you feeling dissatisfied and undervalued. Instead of waiting for goals to be set by your boss, set your own goals for each project, no matter how big or small and work towards achieving them.

good company traits

Work in teams – Sometimes, employees tend to work in silos. This isn’t good for the company’s productivity or your personal productivity. Employees who have good relationships with their co-workers are 2.5 times more likely to be happy on the job than those who don’t get along well with their peers. With that being said, you also need to do your best to avoid negative people. No matter how positively you feel, negative people have a profound impact on your psyche.

If you find that certain groups at work are more likely to engage in negative behaviours such as gossip or complaining, try to distance yourself from those people. If that’s not possible, do your best to redirect conversations onto more positive topics. Make sure you’re not the negative person in the group.

team building benefits

Improve yourself – Improving yourself and acquiring new skills is a big confidence booster. You tend to feel more ready to take on the harder task and even bigger opportunities. Whether it’s a professional course or even our soft skills training, adding a new skill up your sleeve and a new certification in your big, is a big way to get you more motivated in the workplace.

Find your happy place- Your job is so much more than a paycheck; it’s a place you go to improve your skillset, contribute to the greater good, and collaborate with other awesome people. If you get a sinking feeling whenever you think of your job, listen to your gut—it’s telling you something important that you should pay attention to. Leaving a job that makes you unhappy can be crucially important for your mental and emotional well-being. If you feel truly disengaged and unfulfilled from your work, chances are it’s time to move on. Here are seven signs to help you know for sure. Here are 4 warning signs you need a new job.
