The cost of this single commodity permeates everything: the price of food, the cost of transporting commodities to cities, and the day-to-day costs of families struggling to make ends meet.

Recent global changes have made this fact even more evident. Shifts in international fuel flows, triggered by policy changes in key nations, are raising diesel prices throughout the continent.

With the European Union prohibiting fuel produced from Russian petroleum, suppliers such as India and Turkey are diverting supplies to other markets, notably West Africa.

India’s diesel exports to the area are now at historic highs, yet constrained supply and high global demand are pushing local prices upward.

Increased diesel costs mean increased operational expenditures in transportation and logistics. Trucks transporting commodities from fields to cities, and industries to markets, are facing rapidly escalating fuel costs.

These expenses are seldom isolated; they are passed on to consumers, raising prices for food, building materials, and other necessities.

The consequences are swift and widespread: inflation rises, buying power diminishes, and economic uncertainty increases.

Agriculture is not immune to the influence. Diesel fuels irrigation pumps, harvesters, and trucks that transport crops to market.

When diesel prices rise, farmers either absorb the additional expenses or pass them on to consumers. In both instances, cost and food security are jeopardized.

Governments also feel the pinch. Many African countries subsidize fuel to shield consumers from price fluctuations.

As global fuel prices escalate, the cost of these subsidies increases, consequently placing a significant burden on national budgets and diminishing the government’s ability to fund other essential sectors, including infrastructure, healthcare, and education.

While diesel is only one part of the energy mix, its price has a significant impact on inflation, growth, and daily living. Keeping fuel costs under control is more than simply an economic matter; it is a social and developmental need.

With that said, here are the African countries with the most expensive diesel in Febru

Compared to last month’s figures, when the global average price of diesel was 1.22 U.S. dollars per liter, as opposed to 1.26 U.S. dollars per liter currently, diesel prices for Malawi, Cameroon, and Sierra Leone increased.

While diesel prices for CAR, Guinea, Seychelles, Burundi, and Uganda reduced slightly.

Diesel prices for Zimbabwe remained the same.
